A step-by-step guide to the installation of HambleMEGS (Hamble Marine Engine Gas/LPG System) Equipment in your boat

The HambleMEGS equipment is available exclusively from HambleMEGS appointed conversion specialists which are located at a number of strategic locations on the South Coast between Essex and Torquay (see Gas-Installers) and has been developed over the years to become a leader in its field.  The following guide is NOT intended as a DIY installation course but merely as a guide to the installation process:

  • Step 1- Survey.  A survey is carried is carried on your boat to determine the best place to fit the major components (tanks, control switches, sensors etc).  In particular, the size and location of the LPG storage tanks will be discussed.  You will then be given a quotation for the work.
  • Step 2 - Installation.  The actual installation is normally carried out at the Installer's premises and can take between 2 and 5 days depending on complexity.

  • Step 3 - Controls etc. This includes fitting the electronic control system with sensors and built-in safety alarm circuits.  The switch panel is mounted on or near your existing dashboard and the existing fuel gauge circuit is modified to read either petrol or LPG according to which fuel is currently being used.

  • Step 4 - Fuel filler.  A dedicated LPG fuel filler is fitted, clearly marked either "MGS" or "LPG".

  • Step 5 - Sea trial.  When the conversion process is complete, the installer will take the boat out for a sea trial to ensure everything is working correctly and to check the boat's performance.

  • Step 6 - Handover.  Only after all the above has been carried out and the Installer has confirmed that the installation is complete and working correctly will the boat be handed over to the Customer. The Customer will also be given a copy of the Operation Manual and Installation Certificate.
